Fate and the Quiet Man

“I’ve chosen you !” said Fate one day surprising the quiet man

who turned his head, unaware of Fate’s strange perverted plan,

but feeling a sense of dread.

“In a moment, as I clap my hands, will time become briefly stilled,

then you have a task, a frightful decision that with pitfalls is filled

when of you I ask”

“You must say one word only, then from the world will it vanish.”

Fate looked smug, at the man’s dilemma over what evil to banish,

but the man gave a shrug.

“PAIN” for this was present in all that he had considered before,

if all pain disappeared, nothing could blight mankind any more,

nothing left to be feared.
