WORDS OF FILIAL GRATITUDE

Words of Filial Gratitude

Should applause and kind words be to me due,

if nodding salutes honour me some way,

and respectful voices whisper and say,

he is one who’s heart is gentle and true

then all that I’ve become I owe to you.

If great praise and plaudits honour my name

and I am feted on shoulders held high,

or greeted warmly by a stranger’s cry

telling me other men are not the same,

then all that I’ve now done I owe to you.

And when a final bell for me is rung,

should they say that I was a gentle man,

who could ever an ember for hope fan,

while songs about honour and love are sung

then all that I’ve become I owe to you.
