TRUE SILENCE KNOWN
Have you sat through the long night,
eyes pointless in the voided light,
when even awareness of life’s beat
fades to a sense of slight.
Have you had remaining a single thought,
an elusive mist you never sought
that by the last net of a hidden self
was by chance caught.
Have you seen a laughing child skim a stone,
or savour a melting ice cream cone
and felt nothing but emptiness inside,
then you my friend, have true silence known.
