WOMAN WITH PARASOL – written & spoken

This is based on the Claude Monet painting of the same name.

They lure my sight with their frozen poise

the lady and Boy upon the Hill

captured by this moment’s still,

their painted silence that is full of noise,

the dancing swish of ribbon and frock

and the winds gentle sway

that cools the summer day

with an ebb and flow of the grass flock.

I wonder what caused them to pause

that lady and boy upon the hill

who with my eyes shut I see still

their hidden truth that forever draws.

    1. Thank you, originally I wrote it as a story, where she was being led to safety, from an abusive relationship, by the boy. But I was never happy that I suggested an idea to the reader so re-wrote it more enigmatic. I chose the music because the swaying melody reminded me of the bird flock grass toyed with by the wind.
