A bad affair

Did I decide to forget you

or did you steal them back,

the frantic memories few,

that appear to me as black.

It’s your face I can’t recall

and your voice now strange,

as within my mind I trawl

an affair’s truth to change.

I wish it had been the type

that I could forever taste,

a fruit that is eternally ripe,

a sweet flesh without waste.

But it was not such at all,

only by the need to touch

do the curious pick windfall.

To expect love is too much.
