IN THE SHADOW OF A SMILE

In the shadow of a smile

I woke in the shadow of a smile

from the Morning Star born,

and as she leaned close

and let slip a hush

upon the waking world,

I saw in that moment brief,

that all the love once thought lost,

was never lost at all,

but drawn by her breath

into the sapphire light,

there ever to remain

as the Morning Star’s bright.

  1. Thank you for this very beautiful poem. Celestial beauty and love mingled with Earth.
    I love the lines below:
    “but drawn by her breath

    into the sapphire light,

    there ever to remain

    as the Morning Star’s bright.”

  2. Oh Nigel, what a beautiful voice. I have just listened to you speaking this poem. Thankyou. I am wondering how to make recordings like this, for it was something that I wanted to do. I must pursue this idea now. Poetry is so much better spoken.

    1. Thank you Lorraine, how kind of you to say that. I agree, spoken adds another level, a much greater impact. If it’s any help. I use a program called ‘wave pad sound editor’ and a separate usb mic. It seemed the best price/ease of use download. If you ever need any help on this or anything else please feel free to email me from the contact page. I dont preach or teach but I’m always happy to offer an opinion if asked for.

      1. Thankyou so mych Nigel. I will ask my husband if he is game to try this. I am quite keen. I did think of producing a CD of my poems, maybe interspersed with some other things, but never got round to it. But hey, we have a New Year coming, full of oppirtunities. I would love to try it. Thanks so much for the offer. I may well email you in the New Year.
