MUSINGS OF AN INSOMNIAC – poets and poetry

Once the Poet within is released you must take his hand

Poetry is the art that requires the most intellect to be applied

in order to appreciate it fully.

A poem should create thought and emotion, whether that intended or not.

All becalmed Poets should wait for the wind to return and resist reaching for the oars.

Poetry is the art of revealing the wondrous.

The Poet carries a great burden for he can reveal what is hidden

The Poet leaves a fingerprint of his true self in every poem.

Poems tend to either tumble or need teasing from mind to paper.

A Poet reveals the hidden and what is often hidden is his self.

The Poet’s drug of choice is poetry .

To the Poet, his Art can be either a nourishing nectar or bitter bane.

  1. This is just fantastic Nigel. You speak such clear and concise truth
all through this poem about poems.
” All becalmed poets should wait for the wind to return and resist reaching for the oars”
How true that rings with me.
As to sleeplessness….I am not sure whether there was much brain in one of my early posts on this subject . ” The Lavender Besr and I” 😊.
Tell me if you can find it. 🙂
    bless
    Miriam

  2. Love all of these, Nige. Each one stands on its own, drawing the poet in to savor the words. Together, they truly are a wondrous feast that inspires and captivates. Even the photo speaks of revealing beauty in ordinary things.
