In 2009 I was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s Disease. I was prescribed drugs which

alter the brain chemistry. In 2015/2016, following several dose increases, I suddenly started

waking up in the early hours with complete poems, fully formed which I had to write down.

Prior to my illness I was a specialist Contact Lens Optician, with my own Practice. I’ve worked in Optics for over 30 years. I live in West Yorkshire, Northern England with my Wife and son, my daughter is studying History and Literature at the University of Lancaster. I was born in 1964 and have lived in Northern England all my life.

  1. Nigel, we have seen each other on other blogs but this morning I managed to get in on yours.
I am glad I did. A blogger from West Yorkshire. I lived there, near Ilkley for 17 years. Loved it up there. The nature and people.
I read you got very early on-set Parkinson and my heart goes out to you in your daily bravery.
It is very intriguing how you through the ‘injury’ to your brain gained the gift of poetry.
These things are known to happen but have not been explained.

Same happened to me through a brain injury. I am o.k. But the poetry hasn’t gone.

Lovely photo of you and your children. Bless you all.
    Miriam
